A graduate of psychology with a certificate in Values Education, 44-year old Venturia from Bacoor has taught both children and college students for 15 years. While teaching in the classroom, she learned about the emergence of online teaching. Seeing the opportunity to learn a different teaching method, Venturia decided to try being a home-based online English teacher with 51Talk.
Venturia applies the best practices she has learned from her experience as a classroom teacher: being ready for the lesson before the scheduled time and wearing the proper attire project professionalism and make the experience conducive for learning. She also uses smiling and being energetic when conducting lessons to ensure a student’s attentiveness. Through 51Talk’s effective and high-quality teacher training and high standards in teaching, Venturia’s skills have been enhanced and have become even more effective.
“As a teacher, being able to learn a different teaching method is great for developing my craft.”
Her transition to online teaching gave her the chance to improve the English of her students. Kevin, an eight year-old student, had zero knowledge of the language and needed the company of either parent to aid him in learning during his first few lessons with Venturia. After a month of non-stop learning, Kevin became a better speaker of English. Under Venturia, his pronunciation became clearer and his grammar improved significantly. He is still taking lessons with Venturia and is no longer accompanied by his parents when taking the lessons as he became more confident doing them on his own.
Further proof of Venturia’s capability as a teacher is a student named Jiayu. Also eight years of age, Jiayu started with 51Talk as a student with no grasp of the English language. Venturia taught her every other day for one month and saw much progress in a short span of time. Jiayu’s confidence to speak the language became apparent as she began initiating conversations. Her diction improved and she showed correct usage of simple English vocabulary. Because of her progress, not only is Jiayu still taking lessons with Venturia but her whole family signed up to learn English as well.
Venturia is very thankful to 51Talk. Being a home-based online English teacher has given her more time to spend with her husband and two kids while being well-compensated for her teaching ability at the same time. But her main motivation in teaching with 51Talk is her growth as a teacher and as a person. “I am very thankful for discovering 51Talk and making it a part of my life. As a teacher, being able to learn a different teaching method is great for developing my craft. Your growth is continuous due to the training and opportunities. I know I am making a difference just by seeing the progress of my students.” Venturia is a testament of a teacher who uses education as her motivation for doing her best in each lesson.
