Jesson, 35, from Fairview, Quezon City, is one of 51Talk’s outstanding teachers. An education graduate, he is an experienced teacher in both classroom and online settings. His journey with 51Talk has been nothing but exceptional. He was a recipient of the “Top Teacher” award in 2014 and 2015. In addition, he was also on the “Board of Kudos” from 2014 to 2016. It comes as no surprise that Jesson is very popular among students and other 51Talk teachers alike.
As an online teacher, Jesson is very animated with his young students. He incorporates fun into the lessons by using toys and puppets. He also does voice impersonations of famous cartoon characters to make sure the kids listen. With adult students, Jesson encourages them to discuss what they like and what they’ve learned from the lesson as this gives them an opportunity to practice speaking and show if they are listening. “The teacher training sessions and refresher courses have helped me become the effective teacher I am today. They boosted my confidence and taught me the proper way of teaching the lessons,” said Jesson.
“Seeing my students overcome their challenges in speaking the English language has given me a great deal of satisfaction.”
As a tenured teacher, Jesson has many student success stories. Lei, an Automotive Engineer and former student, applied for a position at BMW in Beijing. Jesson did interview simulations during Lei’s lessons to help her prepare. Taking the lessons with Jesson paid off as she ended up getting the position. It was a big career step for Lei to be able to work for one of the most prestigious car makers in the world.
Rain, a 22 year-old student, got a sub-par score on his first attempt to take the TOEFL. To get a passing score, he enrolled in 51Talk and enlisted Jesson’s help. Rain struggled in listening and reading comprehension, so Jesson trained him by using listening drills and asking him questions from what he read or heard. On Rain’s second attempt, he got a very high score. Rain is currently studying in a college in Los Angeles and continues to have lessons with Jesson.
“51Talk helped me gain many friends, which I think is more important than the monetary benefits,” said Jesson. “Also, seeing my students overcome their challenges in speaking the English language has given me a great deal of satisfaction.” Jesson’s journey as a 51Talk teacher includes receiving multiple awards, gaining friendship, and many student achievements. This has made him a fulfilled teacher in many ways.
